Felix Targets Flanagan

Fallon, Nevada – After he weighed in today WBO #3 lightweight contender JOSE FELIX JR. of Los Mochis, Mexico said he will ask Top Rank to next make a fight with WBO champion TERRY FLANAGAN.

 

"I've got to take care of Rob Frankel first - and he has a complicated style, the way he blocks shots and stuff - but after I win let's do a fight with Flanagan. I will fight Flanagan in His House, overseas. It doesn't matter where. Let's get it done."

Felix, 33-1-1, 25 KOs, was born and raised in Los Mochis, Mexico. He trained weeks in Los Mochis to get ready for Frankel, a rugged 34-16-7, 7 KO fighter from Denver. The fight is scheduled for 10 rounds in an outdoor arena and will open Top Rank’s televised card on Solo Boxeo Unimas here Saturday night at the Churchhill County Fairgrounds in Fallon, Nevada.

Felix weighed 137.6 pounds today, as did Frankel.

In the main event – a NABO Featherweight title bout – Guy Robb, 18-1, 8 KOs, of Sacramento will battle Miguel Marriaga, 23-1, 19 KOs, of Cartegena, Colombia. Guy is trained by Ray Woods, the stepfather of the great Diego ‘Chico’ Corrales.  At the weigh-in in Robb weighed 126 pounds, as did Marriaga.

The Top Rank fight card includes New York featherweight prospect Jose Gonzalez, 4-0-1, 2 KOs who will take on Gelacio Cruz, 2-3-2,1 KO of McAllen, Texas.  Jose trained primarily in New York but stopped in Las Vegas to train which included a sparring session with Yuriorkis Gamboa.

Tickets for the fight Saturday are $20 adults, $10 children under 10 general admission and $35 ringside. The event is promoted by Top Rank, Let’s Get It On Boxing and the City of Fallon.

The Unimas telecast will air 11 pm eastern, 10 pm central, 11 pm pacific.
