Pacquiao Delivers First Speech to Congress

According to an AP report, seven-time world champ Manny Pacquiao delivered his FIRST ADDRESS TO THE PHILIPPINES CONGRESS by quoting legendary ring announcer Michael Buffer and legendary American poet Robert Frost. While the report noted the pound-for-pound king, who won election to the Philippines congress in May, appropriated Buffer’s famous pre-bout call-to-arms “Let’s get ready to rumble,” it didn’t say what Frost poem Pacquiao lifted from.

So let’s speculate.

It’s not unreasonable to conclude that the former street kid turned boxing phenomenon, international icon, and, in his native land, a living god selected a line from Frost’s “THE ROAD NOT TAKEN.” That poem is the poet laureate and Nobel Prize winner’s most well-known, and is about the consequences of making decisions not in line with societal expectations. What could better describe Pacquiao? He not only decided to become a prize fighter, but also to buck tradition and give back to his people by running for public office.

If someone out there in the ether knows which poem Pacquiao quoted, by all means, let us know in the comments section below. Until then, we think this passage says it all:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

On a lighter note: Below is a rare behind-the-scenes video of Buffer preparing to make his trademark
