Round Up: Lucky Boy Wins By TKO in Round 6

February 4, 2012 – Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas

“Welcome to the Future” – Undercard

Fight:  LUCKY BOY OMOTOSO, 20-0, 17 KOs, Lagos, Nigeria vs NESTOR ROJAS, 9-2, 6 KOs, Eagle Pass, Texas

Division: 8 Rds., Welterweights

Result: Lucky Boy Wins by TKO in Round 6

Detail: Top Rank’s Hall of Fame Matchmaker Bruce Trampler saw Lucky Boy  and immediately noticed that the Nigerian hits as hard as a mule kicks. (Our metaphor, not Trampler’s.) Rosas found that out the hard way. After a feeling-out opening round, Lucky Boy went to work. A straight right was his preferred, and most effective, weapon against Rosas, who, though game, was rarely in control. (Rosas through some good shots, but you could see his loping windmill of a right in London fog.) The fifth was probably Rosas’ best round, but just as it looked as if he might be turning things around, Lucky Boy snapped his head back with two rights, forcing Rosas to wrap up. He survived to fight into the sixth, when Lucky Boy ended it with a series of vicious punches, forcing the ref to halt the bout at 55 seconds.
