Result: Tapia Wins by KO in Round 2
Detail: Tapia put Ruiz away with one of the more vicious knockouts you’re likely to see. After muscling Tapia into the ropes and reddening his face with hard shots, Ruiz seemed to have the upper hand over his sizeable, imposing-looking opponent – but it was a short-lived rally. Tapia is as cut up as a body builder, and he used that strength to not only survive Ruiz’s flurry but deliver one of his own. Though a left check hook finally finished Ruiz off, it was the accumulation of punishment that made a badly hurt Ruiz flop around on the canvas like a fish in a boat. Thankfully, Ruiz was able to walk out on his own — a tough guy.
The official stoppage time of this short but exciting fight: 2:27.
