biography

Former WBO world featherweight title challenger (0-1)…
NABO featherweight champion, two successful defenses…

At the age of 28, Gamalier is a nine-year pro. A rising young contender at 126 pounds, he has won 17 fights in a row, 13 by knockout, before losing to WBO featherweight world champion Vasyl Lomachenko on May 2nd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
After the fight, Nate Loop wrote on BleacherReport.com [excerpts]: Rodriguez was the aggressor at the beginning, but he clearly lacked the quickness to get through Lomachenko's excellent defenses with his power punches.
Lomachenko, looking confident, was content to study Rodriguez for the first two rounds and assess his game plan....
By the fourth round, Lomachenko had his opponent completely figured out. Rodriguez's limited power was no deterrent, and the Ukrainian prizefighter burrowed his way inside and landed several crushing combinations. [End Loop item]
Gamalier told soloboxeo.com's Wilfredo Acevedo Rivera [May 23, 2013 - excerpts]: "I have the discipline and the tools to beat anyone. I've never had any kind of vice. I'm hungry to be champion.
"I know boxing from A to Z. I had 100 fights in amateur boxing, I represented Puerto Rico many times and know what is fighting and what is boxing."
