“Batalla Por La Gloria” Features Three First-Class Mexican Fighters

Scott Christ of Bad Left Hook writes:

“Top Rank and Zanfer have put together a card for September 18, which will air as part of their Top Rank Live series on Fox Sports and Fox Sports en Espanol, as well as TV Azteca in Mexico, part of the Mexican Independence Day celebration.JORGE ARCE and HUMBERTO SOTO will be co-headliners, with OMAR CHAVEZ also in action.

“The 31-year-old Arce (55-6-1, 42 KO) will be looking for his fourth straight win. He’s become a fixture on major shows for Mexican Independence weekend, losing last year to Simphiwe Nongqayi, and the year previous beating Rafael Concepcion in a knock-down, drag-out brawl. The former titleholder at 108, 112 and 115 pounds has been denied a recognized major belt at 118 pounds, and will try his luck at 122.

“His opponent will be Lorenzo Parra (31-2, 18 KO). The 32-year-old Venezuelan held the WBO’s flyweight belt from 2003 until 2007, when he missed weight and was stopped by Takefumi Sakata in their third bout. His last notable fight came in June 2008, when he fought Celestino Caballero, against whom Parra gave up almost seven inches of height. He was stopped in the 12th round on an injury in that bout.”
