Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon Defends World Title June 12

Tickets on Sale Thursday, April 22 at Noontime

NEW YORK (April 21, 2010) — World champion Ivan ‘Iron Boy’ Calderon of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, will defend his crown against Jesus ‘Azul’ Iribe of Culiacan, Mexico on a Top Rank Live! championship boxing event on June 12 – the eve of the Puerto Rican Parade – in The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

The big card will include Steven Badgley, a U.S. Army armed helicopter pilot, of Camp Drum, N.Y. who will make his pro debut at light heavyweight.  Top New Jersey prospects Jorge Diaz, an unbeaten featherweight, and Glen Tapia, an unbeaten junior middleweight are also on the card.

Tickets at $200, $100, $50 and $25 will go on sale Thursday, April 22 at noontime, and can be purchased at the Madison Square Garden box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, and online at WWW.THEGARDEN.COM

Calderon, 33-0-1, is the World Boxing Organization (WBO) junior flyweight champion.  He is a former WBO mini flyweight champion. In world title fights, Calderon has a record of 17-0-1. He is recognized by many as one of the most pure boxers at any weight and has been a world champion seven years.

Iribe has a record of 17-6-4. He lives and trains in Culiacan, Mexico.  Iribe has been in two world title fights, the last against Brian Viloria in Honolulu in August 2009.  Viloria won by decision.

Badgley is a Chief Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army.  He is stationed at Camp Drum, N.Y. and is the pilot of an OHL-58D Kiowa Warrior, an armed reconnaissance helicopter.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to box at Madison Square Garden,” said Badgley, who was born and raised in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.  He joined the U.S. Army eight years ago and has had 20 sanctioned amateur boxing bouts. He will turn pro at 175 pounds.

New Jersey prospects Jorge Diaz and Glen Tapia are also on the fight card.  Diaz, a featherweight, has a record of 15-0 with 12 KOs.  Tapia, a junior middleweight, has a record of 6-0, 4 KOs.

First bell is 8 pm. Top Rank Live! will be broadcast on FSN and Fox Sports Espanol.
