Mikey Garcia in Laredo for Featherweight Eliminator

Unbeaten featherweight Mikey Garcia of Oxnard, Ca. is in Laredo, Texas for his biggest fight.  Garcia is taking on Cornelius Lock of Detroit in an IBF Featherweight Eliminator on a Top Rank Live! fight card on Saturday night, August 14.

"We're in tough and we know it," said Robert Garcia, older brother and chief trainer of Mikey. "We studied video of Lock. We know him very well -- a tough, talented fighter. But Mikey trained hard, over 100 rounds of sparring at a gym in Santa Ana (California).

"On Saturday night Mikey will get into the ring and figure out Lock real quick," Garcia said. "If we have to pressure, we will pressure. If we have to box from the outside, we'll do that.  I told Cameron (Dunkin, co-manager) we welcome fights like this. We have to beat tough fighters like Cornelius Lock to work our way to a world title fight."

Mikey Garcia, 22, got into Laredo on Wednesday.  He has a record of 22-0 with 18 knockouts. In Mikey's last fight he out-battled 24-7-3 Pedro Navarette and won a decision on the Antonio Margarito vs. Roberto Garcia on May 8 in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Lock has a record of 19-5-1, 12 knockouts.

"I am very calm and technical in the ring," Mikey said. "I fight very smart. I try to pick weak spots and go to work on that."

The Mikey Garcia vs. Cornelius Lock eliminator fight will open the Top Rank Live! telecast on FSN (10 pm eastern/7 pm pacific). Top Rank is promoting in association with Banner Promotions and Zanfer Promotions.
