The Event, Pacquiao vs Clottey

The Event, Pacquiao vs Clottey

08/10/2010

"When people see on March 13 not only a great fight, but see a fight that is presented in a way like no other boxing match has ever been presented, it will shock the world."-Bob Arum, Top Rank Boxing Founder and CEO

It's not enough to label Manny Pacquiao a boxer--or even a boxing great.

"I mean, he's not just a fighter," says boxing historian Bert Sugar. "Manny Pacquiao is a phenomenon."

Pacquiao is coming off a stunning 12th round knock-out over three-time world champion Miguel Cotto in November. That fight earned Pacquiao a history-making seventh title in as many weight divisions, and put to rest any notion that he wasn't the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

His reputation secured, Pacquiao could've slowed down. But he still has something to prove. "I want to prove that I can fight at a natural 147 pounds," he says.

Pacquiao will have just such an opportunity in former welterweight champion Joshua Clottey. A native of the West African Country of Ghana, Clottey isn't just fighting for himself--he's fighting for his people. He says, "This fight means a lot to me, my country, and all my team."

On March 13, some 40,000 people will fill what many are calling pro football's crown jewel: the brand new, state-of-the-art Cowboys Stadium. The question on all their minds, Can Clottey unseat boxing's crown jewel, Manny Pacquiao?

Before fans find out the answer to that question, they will be treated to an amazing array of undercard bouts.
