Jose Ramirez will headline on Cinco de Mayo in Reno, NV.

LAS VEGAS (April 3, 2017) – Former U.S. Olympian and now World Boxing Council (WBC) Continental America’s super lightweight champion, Jose Ramirez, will honor the Mexican tradition of ‘La Batalla de Puebla’ when he defends his title and his unbeaten record, May 5th (Cinco de Mayo), at the Reno Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada.

In his last fight, Ramirez, from Fresno, California, improved his record to: 19-0, with 14 knockouts, when he blasted former NABO and NABA challenger Issouf ‘Volcano’ Kinda, in the main event of the card that took place last December in front of a sold out crowd at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.

“Fighting on May 5th brings excitement to me. It’s the day Mexico won “La Batalla de Puebla” (The battle of Puebla) against the strong army of French. It showed the strength of the Mexican people. My blood is 100% Mexican and fighting that day for all the Mexican people will give me the extra motivation and desire to win,” said Ramirez. “May 5th is for us to remember that “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but how big is the fight in the dog”. The Mexican people showed how big the fight was in them in 1862, and I will do the same now. On May 5th I plan to make a statement. That statement will be to give hope and make the fans believers that I can be a world champion. I want to give my fans a great fight, and show them that I’m complete boxer,” guaranteed the fighter that is ranked number 5 in the world by the WBC at 140 pounds.

“This means everything to Jose. How much bigger can you get than this? To actually fight on the actual day of May 5th as the main event, in a large venue and on National TV? It’s a day for him, his family and his fans, that no one will forget,” said Rick Mirigian, Ramirez’s advisor. “He is highly motivated and hungry, he wants that challenge and welcomes it the second Top Rank says so, he knows what he has to do. He is ready to show he is the future of the 140-pound division. He will make his mark on it in the close years to come,” Mirigian added.

The ‘Cinco de mayo’ card that will be presented by Top Rank, in association with Let’s Get It On Promotions, and Atlantis Hotel & Casino, will be televised from coast to coast in the United States at 11 p.m. ET/PT on ‘Solo Boxeo’ by Unimas and Univision Deportes Network.

Tickets are now on sale and can be acquired online on: www.TicketMaster.com, charge by phone by calling: 800-745-3000 or at the Atlantis Hotel & Casino Gift Shop.
