Conceição defends his junior lightweight world title versus O’Shaquie Foster on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Turning Stone Resort Casino LIVE on ESPN+

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 23, 2024) — Robson Conceição is eager to prove that his world title victory over O’Shaquie Foster was no fluke.

Conceição will make the inaugural defense of his WBC junior lightweight world championship against Foster on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.

Conceição edged Foster by split decision in July, a verdict that many boxing experts deemed controversial. Feeling disrespected by the criticism, the Brazilian Olympic gold medalist is determined to prove the naysayers wrong and defeat Foster again.

Conceição-Foster II headlines a stacked card that will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+.

Promoted by Top Rank, tickets are on sale and can be purchased at the Turning Stone Resort Casino Box Office, charge by phone by calling 800.771.7711, or online at Ticketmaster.com.

Conceição (19-2-1, 9 KOs) is no stranger to narrow decisions. In his first title shot against Oscar Valdez in September 2021, he lost a closely contested unanimous decision. Last November, he fought Emanuel Navarrete to a disputed majority draw in a bid for the WBO 130-pound title. After stopping Jose Guardado in seven rounds in April, Conceição secured his fourth title opportunity and finally captured world title glory.

Following a recent training session at the Top Rank Gym in Las Vegas, this is what Conceição had to say:

“The criticism of the last fight was tremendously disrespectful, especially because I had already been in two big fights like this before, against Oscar Valdez and Emanuel Navarrete. There were two fights where I could have been the champion and emerged victorious.”

“Foster’s team wasn’t happy with my victory. But he should have asserted himself more in the fight as a champion. He ran and avoided the fight the entire time.”

“I showed that I deserved the win and should have come out as the champion. I was the one asserting myself the entire time. I was the one landing a lot of punches. So, today, I’m a world champion because I earned it and fought for it.”

“This is the way that I think. If you’re the champion, you have to show why you’re the champion. You have to assert yourself and try to knock your opponent out. You’re not supposed to run the entire time. You’re not supposed to throw single shots.”

“Now, he has another opportunity. But I’m the champion now. I will show why I’m the champion. I will assert myself and go for the knockout. I’m coming to hit him hard and often.”
