Chavez Unfiltered: “I Want to Make Boxing History”

(Editor’s Note: On June 26, JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR. returns to the ring FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT FIGHT of his career. If he wins, Chavez will likely take one big step closer to a title shot. “Chavez Unfiltered” is a three-part interview series that presents Chavez’s thoughts on a range of subjects in the lead up to his bout against John Duddy at San Antonio’s Alomodome.)

In the first installment of the series, Chavez Jr. talks about what motivates him to box and working with”TRAINER OF THE DECADE” FREDDIE ROACH.

“Well, I am motivated by the fact that even though I have not always done things 100 percent properly, my qualities have been enough to win. So, I think that at this point in my career, which is the most important, I think I can still take the right road. I have a lot to give boxing, and now that that I am with Freddie Roach, I hope that he can help me to become world champion and fulfil that dream that I have.

“I want to make history in boxing, so I am not going to settle for what I have done up to now. I want to do much more and there are no limits. And if I have to do what I have to do to get to world champion and boxing history, well, I am going to do it. Because it’s what I want, and it’s what I am doing.

“I have always been hungry to do it, and that is why I have won and been successful in my fights. Unfortunately, like everyone, we all have our faults, and we all come off the straight and narrow. I have always tried to get back on track and be aware of what I have done wrong and what I do right and simply, well, I want to make a decision that I think will help me in my career.”
