Margarito Unfiltered: “I Feel Very Strong”

(Editor’s Note: On May 8, Antonio “The Tijuana Tornado” Margarito returns to the ring for the first time in more than a year to fight Roberto Garcia. “Margarito Unfiltered” is a five-part interview series that presents Margarito’s thoughts on a range of subjects in the lead up to the former champ’s COMEBACK BOUT IN AGUASCALIENTES. MEXICO.)

In Roberto Garcia, ANTONIO MARGARITO faces a tough fighter who’s only lost twice and who’s knocked out 21 of his 28 opponents. In this fourth of five interviews, Margarito talks about Garcia as a fighter and why he wanted to fight him.

“The majority of [Garcia’s] fights have been knock outs, he hasn’t been knocked out, and that’s good. Hopefully, he prepares himself well, as he has said, so that it can be a good fight.

“The truth is, I want interesting rivals, because he is a strong rival, and we are going to be prepared to come out of this with our heads held high. My comeback is more important so that they know that we are ready and that my loss [to Shane Mosely in 2009] was simply a bad night. They chose this rival, who is quite strong, and I will show again that we are ready for any world title.

“I feel very strong. I think that I prepare for 10, 12 fights, but I think that work itself brings strength and brings on a KO. I feel strong enough, and I think when he feels his first hits he is going to think, I’ve got some problems. It’s going to be a good fight. Garcia is a big puncher who comes forward and as everyone knows so do I. It will be a great fight for the fans.”
