Johnson represented Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics before turning pro as a junior welterweight in November 2021 on the Terence Crawford-Shawn Porter card, stopping Antonius Grable in the fourth round.
Johnson closed out his 2024 campaign with an eight-round decision over Yomar Alamo in New York City. He then elected to move up to the welterweight division. That paid dividends when he knocked out San Antonio-born veteran Kendo Castaneda in the fifth round of their March 2025 showdown.
