Bob Arum Speaks Out on Welterweight Controversy

While serving as master of ceremonies for the Fernando Montiel-Nontio Donaire press conference, Top Rank founder and CEO Bob Arum dropped plenty jewels on a wide range of issues – including who should fight Andre Berto next.

On the Montiel-Donaire fight Feb. 19:

“This card on Saturday night is something special. Every fight on the card should be very exciting and very entertaining. And whenever you can put a fight together that matches the two best fighters in a division, you know you have something that’s extraordinary. They’re entertaining action fighters. And they thrill and entertain an audience.”  

On the MIKE JONES-Jesus Soto-Karass rematch on the Montiel-Donaire undercard:

“They put on such a rousing fight that it got the audience all stirred up for the main event. And there was controversy. Who really won the fight? Mike started out really strong. Then Jesus came on. Then Mike came back. So rather than prolong the debate endlessly, we decided to rematch the fight. The two welterweights, Mike jones and JESUS SOTO-KARASS, are two of the best welterweights in the world.”
