Marquez: “I Have Come to Win the Championship”

Hernan “Tyson” Marquez, the 21-year-old challenger to NONITO DONAIRE, held a media workout yesterday in the Wilfredo Gomez Gym in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, home gym of two-time world champion Ivan Calderon, who was visiting the young Mexican contender.

“I feel very happy to be fighting for the world championship here in Puerto Rico,” Marquez said. “I know that the fans here are very knowledgeable and they expect to see good fights–something that I will try to give them on Saturday.”

Marquez will face Donarie in the co-main event of “The Challenge,” a card headlined by Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez and BERNABE CONCEPCION at the Coliseo of Puerto Rico.

Marquez added, “I have come to win the championship. You don’t get many opportunities to fight for a world title and its something that you have to take advantage off when it come your way.”

Marquez spoke to Calderon and to Regatton singer Daddy Yankee–who was also training there–during his visit to Guaynabo. “Calderon is a lefty like me and used to fighting bigger guys,” said Marquez, “so he have me some pointers and I am very grateful to him for that. It was great meeting him and speaking to him, as well as Daddy Yankee–someone who is a great entertainer.”
Marquez, who trained in Mexico City under the experienced Rudy Perez, feels very confident for the fight on Saturday.

“I feel great. I should have no problem making the weight, and I will be very strong on Saturday Night. This fight is the most important of my career, and I will give it my all to win it and to make Mexico proud,” Marquez, said.

The weigh-in will occur at 1 p.m. EST on Friday at the Opera Room of the Verdanza Hotel in Isla Verde, Puerto Rico, and will be available live via TRLIVESTREAM.
