Ramirez “Feels Strong, On the Right Track”

USA Olympian JOSE RAMIREZ is in the gym six days a week. The morning begins with a long run, five miles or more, around parks or on mountain paths or “on asphalt or concrete. I like to run outdoors in the fresh air and I like to run on high elevation.”

Ramirez, 3-0, 2 KOs, of Avenal, California, returns to the ring on Saturday night. He takes on lightweight Christopher Williams of Barranquitas, Puerto Rico at the WinStar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Ramirez vs Williams will open theSOLO BOXEOTECATE telecast on UniMas (11:30 pm et)

In the gym, Ramirez, 20, said his work week including three days of sparring, three days of strength and conditioning. He and his team last week were at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California for a series of sparring sessions.

Ramirez said he is working on “being more technical with my punches.

“If I am in front of my opponent I am learning how to attack on different angles – not just go in straight ahead.

“I like where I am right now – I am on the right track. I am very determined inside the ring and want to be the very best in my division. I want to learn more. I am very coachable.

“I have other personal goals too, like being the best person I can possibly be. That means a lot to me too,” Ramirez said.

Ramirez, a Mexican-American, began boxing at the age of eight. He had an amateur record of 145-11. He was a long-time No. 1-rated amateur, won many gold medals and was USA Boxing’s all-time lightweight record holder… Ramirez is trained by Armando Mancinas.
